One of the biggest challenges I believe our CLP faces is that of engaging our local youth. Having been involved with the party since I was a student I have a good understanding of what it is like to be a young labour member living in an area where young people often go unheard and engaging our local youth population is something I have always been passionate about.
Like many young people with an interest in politics, I have often found it confusing and intimidating to involve myself with local politics. Having personally navigated the path to political involvement myself I believe I now have the understanding to encourage others like me to use their voices and get their valuable opinions heard. As Labour Youth Officer for Christchurch, I would endeavour to galvanise our current young members to build a strong, welcoming team.
I would make it our aim to engage the politically disengaged, inspire the uninspired and give a voice to those who currently feel voiceless. With plenty of experience in positions of responsibility, I have developed strong communication skills. Combined with the social media skills I developed during my time writing as a music journalist, helping to edit and run several online blogs, I believe these skills will help me succeed in this role.
