Matthew became involved in the Labour Party when he joined in 2015 after supporting them all his life, he believes that parity between the richest and poorest has become too great and is moving towards an unsustainable level for both society and the environment.
He also believes that society must address the issues of inherent inequality amongst the populace that negatively affect social cohesion. He believes that Labour represents the best opportunity to begin to address pressing issues such as climate change and equality.
Matthew believes that Christchurch is a wonderful place to live but has so much potential to become a real thriving town once again. He believes that investment in the local infrastructure and public transport will both ease congestion and improves the air quality for the residents, investment on social housing, with every new build coming with solar panels is vital to grow the local economy and help families and real assistance for local businesses to rebuild the high street.
He returned to Christchurch in August 2018 after living in London for 18 months where he helped during the 2019 local elections as Ward Organiser for Burton & Grange, where we increased our vote share and beat the Tories, set up the new website and took on the role as Press and Media Coordinator to improve the local voice of Christchurch Labour Party within the local media. Following the announcement of the 2019 general election, he organised the campaign for Andrew Dunne. Matthew works at Sainsbury’s and is the USDAW Union rep for the Christchurch store along Lyndhurst Road.
